Deniz Kılınç / Istanbul, June 10 (HNA) – The number of unemployed people aged 15 years old and over increased by 65 thousand to 3 million 853 thousand in april compared to the previous month, while the unemployment rate inched up by 0.1 percentage points to 11.3 percent.
Turkish Statistical Institute’s (TurkStat) Household Labor Force Survey revealed that the number of employed people increased by 408 thousand to 30 million 371 thousand during the same period. The employment rate increased by 0.6 percentage points to 47.1 percent. In terms of gender distribution, the employment rate was 64.7 percent for men, 29.8 percent for women.
The number of people in the labour force rose by 473 thousand people to 34 million 225 thousand in April on a monthly basis, according to TurkStat. Labour force participation rate increased by 0.7 percentage points to 53.1 percent. The labor force participation rate was 71.6 percent for men, and 34.9 percent for women.
The youth unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group was fell by 0.8 percentage points to 20 percent during this period. While this rate was estimated 18.1 percent for men, it was 23.7 percent for women.
Meanwhile, seasonally and calendar adjusted average weekly actual working hours of people at work during the reference period increased by 0.2 hours to 45.1 hours in april compared to march.
