Istanbul, July 4 (HNA) – “We will continue to be together with our dear listeners and friends with the same determination and the same feelings from now on,” said Açık Radyo, whose licence was cancelled by the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTSC), which had previously imposed a 5-day programme suspension and a fine.
Underlining that legal applications will be made regarding RTSC’s decision, Açık Radyo’s statement reads as follows:
“Although it is yet to be officially declared to us, we have been informed that Açık Radyo’s broadcast license was revoked at the Radio and Television Supreme Council meeting held on 3 July 2024.
“We had already filed a request for the payment in instalments of the monetary fine issued along with the decision of temporary broadcast suspension. This request was accepted, and the first instalment was paid. It is thus clear that we have no intention to resist the law or to violate this decision through unlawful means and that we are trying to follow a well-intentioned course.
“At the point we are, it is unacceptable that, based on an expression, which indisputably stands within the scope of freedom of expression and press freedom, voiced during our program ‘Açık Gazete’, we now face the revocation of Açık Radyo’s broadcast license.
“As a matter of course, we are naturally making all necessary legal applications. We would also like to note that Açık Radyo, as it has done for the past 30 years, will continue its broadcast with the same responsibility and in line with the same universal principles of journalism.
“As for our dear listeners and friends, who have always stood by us, we would like to state once again that we will continue to be together with the same sentiments and determination.
“Açık Radyo is open to all the universe’s sounds, colours and vibrations.”
