Istanbul, September 10 (HNA) – With over three billion monthly active users, Facebook continues to lead the social media market. As the first social network to exceed one billion registered accounts, Facebook had 3.07 billion monthly active users as of 2025, whilst WhatsApp, which follows it, has 3 billion, Instagram has 3 billion, and YouTube has 2.58 billion monthly active users.
According to an infographic by the Germany-based data and statistics platform Statista, Meta Platforms owns the four largest social media platforms, each with over one billion monthly active users: Facebook (the main platform), WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram.
TikTok follows this quartet with 1.99 million monthly active users. The most high-profile social platforms are based in the US and China. Chinese social networks such as WeChat, QQ or the video-sharing app Douyin have also gained mainstream appeal in their respective regions due to local context and content. Douyin’s popularity led to the launch of TikTok, the international version of the platform’s network.
It is estimated that social networking sites will reach 5.75 billion users by 2026, and these figures are expected to continue rising as mobile device usage and mobile social networks attract increasing interest in markets that were previously underserved.
