Deniz Kılınç / London, March 24 (HNA) – Laying the foundations to establish an effective capital market and institutions in Turkey, the Capital Markets Board of Turkey’s (CMB) former president Prof. Şükrü Tekbaş’s new book “Yatırım El Kitabı – Sermaye Pazarları, Menkul Değerlere Yatırım ve Portföy Yönetimi (Investment Handbook – Capital Markets, Securities Investment and Portfolio Management)” will be published by Scala, with the sponsorship of Borsa Istanbul.
After taking on various roles in different departments of capital markets, giving lectures on capital markets for undergraduate and graduate students in various universities, including Istanbul University, and holding seminars and curriculums for various institutions, Prof. Tekbaş joined the authors of Scala Publishing with the contract he signed with the company regarding the publication of his books.

Prof. Tekbaş, who addressed the capital markets for the first time, wrote weekly and monthly articles for the Banka ve Ekonomik Yorumlar Dergisi (Journal of Banking and Economic Comments) and daily Dünya. He developed the first stock index in Turkey and led the way for the capital markets as the co-founder of the Değer Menkul Değerler AŞ (Değer Securities).
Prof. Tekbaş, who helped students to have successful careers in various institutions of the capital markets while acting as the independent member of the Turkish Capital Markets Association (TCMA) and took part in Capital Markets Licensing Registry and Training Agency Inc. commissions, gathered all this experience in a book by taking into account the theoretical and practical developments in the capital markets that have a dynamic structure in the world.
The first two chapters of Scala author Prof. Tekbaş’s book discusses the financial system, capital markets, and stock exchanges, their development processes, and new trends in these areas. The third chapter deals with return and risk, and the fourth chapter covers the distribution of risk and portfolio theory.
Discussing the models and applications for asset pricing in the following four chapters, the ninth chapter of the Yatırım El Kitabı addresses the efficient market hypothesis and stock risk premium, and the tenth chapter focuses on behavioural finance, an issue that has become increasingly important in capital markets in recent years. This chapter is followed by fundamental analysis, valuation, and technical analysis.
In these chapters, stock and company valuations are discussed through examples using various methods. Fixed-income securities, portfolio management, the evaluation of portfolio performance, and derivative financial instruments are other points of discussion in the book. In short, the book involves every issue regarding capital markets and investment in securities and includes examples for every entry.
The book was designed as a foundation for everyone interested in capital markets; university students, people of all ages preparing for the exams of various institutions, capital market employees, investors, and all individuals who aim to improve themselves and have information regarding capital markets and investment in securities.
Prof. Tekbaş completed his secondary education at Istanbul Erkek High School, his undergraduate education at Istanbul University Faculty of Economics, and received his MBA from Indiana University and his doctorate from Istanbul University. He graduated from the Faculty of Business Administration and was promoted to associate professor and professor positions at the Faculty of Business Administration of Istanbul University.
Besides Istanbul University, Tekbaş gave lectures at the Istanbul Technical University, as well as Roosevelt, Northeastern, and Suffolk Universities in the U.S. He was the first to cover the issue of capital markets in the media, which led him to begin writing a column on the topic in Banka ve Ekonomik Yorumlar Dergisi in 1975.
Creating the first stock index in Turkey, Prof. Tekbaş wrote regular articles on the capital market in the Banka ve Ekonomik Yorumlar Dergisi and daily Dünya. Serving as the Chairman of the Capital Markets Board between 1988 and 1992, Prof. Tekbaş served as the Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration at Istanbul University, the Director of the Institute of Business Economics of Istanbul University, the President of the International Academic Relations Board, and the Director of the Capital Markets Research and Application Center (Sermaye Piyasaları Araştırma ve Uygulama Merkezi/SERPAM), which he founded.
Tekbaş, who takes part in the boards of various industry organizations, the Istanbul Erkek Liseliler Eğitim Vakfı, Denmark-based Garring Foundation, and the Turkish Capital Markets Association, is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Turkish Education Foundation (TEV).
Working as an international consultant at the Dortmund-based ‘Fraunhofer Institut für Materialfluss und Logistik’, a department of Fraunhofer Institutes, one of the world’s respected research institutions, Prof. Tekbaş is the co-founder of Değer Menkul Değerler AŞ and AKT Uygulamalı Araştırmalar Merkezi AŞ. He is currently giving lectures at the Turkish-German University and serves as an independent member of the board of directors in various institutions.
