London Book Fair 2023 hosted 1,042 publishers from around the world

Apr 20, 2023

London, April 20 (HNA) – This year, 1,042 publishers from all over the world participated in the London Book Fair, which serves as the “spring chapter” of the global publishing industry.

Turkey’s stand was opened at the London Book Fair, which is also considered “the world’s largest market for story creators and the centre of publishing”. In addition to the Turkey Stand, the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO) booth with 14 exhibitors took place at the London Book Fair.

Ten publishing houses from Turkey participated in the fair individually to negotiate royalties and sales of their works. Scala Publishing editors Canan Feyyat and Hakan Feyyat also made contacts at the London Book Fair held at Olympia.

Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, delivered an opening keynote, before discussing his new book, Breathe: Tackling the Climate Emergency, with Dan Conway, CEO of the Publishers Association, and an introduction from Karine Pansa, President of the International Publishers Association.

“Last summer,” Khan said, “London faced record-breaking 40C weather [104 degrees Fahrenheit], causing wildfires and the busiest day for the London fire brigade since the blitz. The year before, we saw the devastating impact of flooding, leaving tube stations filled with water, roads impassable and people losing their homes. All these things are a trailer for a movie we really don’t want to watch, which is why national and local leadership is so important.”

In a statement, the London Book Fair said, “We are constantly changing the publishing industry. Year after year, our exhibitors come back to us because we provide the ideal platform for them to engage with customers, build brand awareness and do business,” the London Book Fair statement said, adding:

“We welcome guests and exhibitors from all over the world to meet the ‘who’s who’ of the publishing industry. You have every reason to attend the fair to take advantage of everything LBF has to offer.

“LBF offers a variety of sessions and features, including the Seminar Program, which provides insight into the world of books as well as inspiring Authors of the Day. There is something for everyone.”

All sectors of the publishing industry are covered at London Book Fair, including;

Trade (Consumer) Publishing
Uniting the world of words, LBF is home to the book community, including Trade and Consumer Publishers. Whether fiction, non-fiction, poetry, memoirs or a bestseller, this sector, one of the largest publishing categories, is well represented at LBF.

Children’s & Young Adult
Always one of the most colourful areas of the show, our Children’s & YA section traditionally welcomes the leading names in the field to exhibit. These companies enjoy buzzing aisles full of visitors and benefit from the opportunity to increase brand awareness, generate new business leads domestically and globally, and increase their networks.

Academic & Professional
Technology’s role in scholarly publishing is becoming ever more important, and at the forefront of the digital revolution are the trailblazers of technological innovation – the academic/STM/professional publishers. An increasing number of these publishers choose to exhibit at The London Book Fair or attend as visitors.

Technology and Publishing Solutions
All the new ways to develop content are found in the Tech area at LBF, located in the National Gallery of Olympia. Whether it be an app, game, mobile development or enhanced eBook – or a development not yet launched – the Tech area is its home.

Bookselling
LBF celebrates and champions bookselling in all its guises, from high street browsing to online clicking. Each year, we welcome the Booksellers Association (BA) as one of our main sponsors and supporters, and we’re proud to provide a full programme of events and networking opportunities for booksellers at the fair.

BA Members attend the fair for FREE and receive a number of key benefits, making the fair a more accessible, cost-effective and highly relevant event for booksellers. Simply click here to find out more about becoming a BA member and taking advantage of this offer.

Creative Industries
The London Book Fair reaches beyond the book world – each year, we foster connections between publishing and other aligned creative industries, including TV & Film, Brand Licensing, Games and Advertising. From matchmaking to speed networking, LBF provides a forum for publishers and the creative industries to exchange ideas, establish new contacts, and explore the myriad of ways IP can be exploited and enhanced.

Authors & Self-Publishing
Authors feel at home at LBF. Author HQ, which comprises a theatre and networking area, is one of our most popular features, attracting great interest from the self-publishing community.

Meanwhile, our Author of the Day programme helps bring writers face-to-face with bestselling authors who will share their journey to publication during a special series of talks at the fair. Authors can also find inspiration and network at our author-related conference, Writers’ Summit.

Writer’s Block
This fair sector is an excellent place for authors and writers to increase brand awareness and generate new business leads. First launched in 2016, Writer’s Block has gone from strength to strength to become the destination for Author Services at The London Book Fair. Writer’s Block is in the perfect location to take advantage of the traffic created by the seminars in Author HQ across the three days of the fair.

The Illustrators’ Gallery
The Illustrators’ Gallery enables illustrators and artists to showcase their work to the international publishing community. The collective gallery area allows illustrators and publishers to meet and network for new and exciting projects to be commissioned.

International Rights Centre
A key area for the fair, the International Rights Centre is where rights professionals meet to sell rights during a critical buying time for the industry. Offering private meeting spaces and exclusive services, our IRC gives professionals the opportunity to meet with new and existing contacts.
